The New York City Church Project

This site has been in the works for several years. After many visits to Europe, admiring its beautiful places of worship, the question was raised about New York’s own. We realized that while our fair city’s churches, temples and cathedrals lacked in antiquity and history, many were exquisite. But just how many?

As it turns out, legions. And no, we’re not solely talking about the usual suspects (St. Patrick’s, St. John the Divine), but at others that while lesser known, still shone. True, we are making a wholly aesthetic assessment, the opposite of 2 Corinthians 4:18. While we know faith shines bright across the city, we only look at outwardly appearances.

This journey is still evolving, and given the geography of the city, could well be endless. But after looking at years’ worth of photos we had to start somewhere. This is it. Welcome!
