While Williamsburg gets a lot of buzz regarding its ambiance and hip culture, it’s easy to forget that the area has many beautiful churches. On its heyday, Williamsburg’s deanery had at least 10 functioning Roman Catholic parishes. The list of the must-sees is almost endless, but suffice it to say that no church expedition would be complete without Annunciation.
Built in 1870 by Francis Himpler, Annunciation is one of the oldest church buildings in northern Brooklyn. Its simple (and large) Romanesque Revival façade conceals an intricate interior with a beautiful bluish nave.
