The Romanesque Revival church was built in 1901 by Harding & Gooch. It’s on the site of the previous church, built in 1844, which was Staten Island’s first Roman Catholic church and parish. The Cardinal Tower was added in 1917, in honor of Cardinal John M. Farley, who was a curate in the parish in the 1870s.
