St. Raymond’s Church

A towering presence at the entrance to Parkchester.

Anchoring the northeast entrance to Parkchester, this massive Romanesque Revival church stands impressively at the corner of Tremont and Castle Hill Avenues. Built in 1898 by George H. Streeton.

A Bronx landmark

In a borough full of large Catholic churches (St. Nicholas of Tolentine and St. Jerome, among several others), its mass and its small churchyard in front give it an otherworldly air. Inside, its beautiful dome and pastel colors provide solace.
