Our Lady of Lebanon Cathedral

One of the first churches built in the United States with the Romanesque Revival style, the storied church is quite beautiful.

Brooklyn Heights has no lack of beautiful churches: Grace, Holy Cross, the old St Ann, St. Charles Borromeo, and many others. However, Our Lady of Lebanon stands out in its amazing interior.

Church of the Pilgrims

Originally built as the Church of the Pilgrims by Richard Upjohn, the staid Romanesque Revival (which has the claim of being one the first churches built in the United States) exterior hides a sumptuous church inside.

The exterior

Once Church of the Pilgrims merged with Plymouth Church in the 1930s, The current Maronite Catholic congregation moved in 1944. It has been the see of the Northeast American Maronite Catholics since 1977.

If visiting, check out its colorful nave with motifs of the levant, and the very ingenious organ pipes. Outside, some of the bronze doors were rescued from the SS Normandie cruise liner, which capsized and sank at Pier 88 as the USS Lafayette in 1942.
