Built in 1902, the church has an elaborate Italian Renaissance Revival style, and now functions as co-cathedral of the Brooklyn diocese, sharing duties with smaller St. James. Its complex is a fixture of Pacific Street, and dominates the local landscape. The church was designed by Francis J. Berlenbach and is quite colorful inside.

There are different mini domed aisles with the different national virgin Marys, mostly of Spanish-speaking countries. As David W. Dunlap would say, this is quite the Baroque revival pastry, and its shiny interior is a treat.
